After drawing up my dragons (Norsk drager in a previous post) I have been working away on these mosaics for a few months. Just an hour or two on the odd occasion I get home at a reasonable time from work (so much better than watching TV).
I learned a lot from my first mosaic with the red background. The second mosaic blue and green background seemed so much better. I started to learn about cutting and sizing pieces and colour placement (always my area of weakness).
The dark grout then changed the images completely (as I suspected it would). And then framing in white changed them again.
I am quite pleased with the end result :o)
I wonder what next…
Beautiful!

These are just lovely. I have done some mosaics over the years and so I marvel at your command of the colors and also placing the grout lines. I remember myself how much the mosaic changed with grouting and I have to say, I always felt like it was a present I’d just opened, a piece of magic! Thank you for showing these, they are wonderful.

Yes it’s quite a surprise after grouting, I know the images will change but I’m not experienced enough to predict exactly what it will look like. Thank you so much for the kind comments.

You’re welcome. And I’ll say, as an intermediate mosaicist, more or less, that for me, I never can predict the end results, though I did get better at getting in the neighborhood of what would compliment the mosaic. I liked it that way. For some reason I felt the mosaic came to life (whatever it wanted) with the grouting, and people I taught mosaics to seemed to feel that way too. I love your work, I think you have an obvious feel for it.

Well it’s only my second attempt at a mosaic piece so I have a long way to go before I get to grips with the medium. The colour of the grout confuses me a little – some colours would detract from the mosaic. Or would they enhance it? Not sure.
So many other mediums to play with but I may return to mosaic one day (I think you’ve inspired me to have another go)

Thank you! Before I started this blog I always made things for myself and never imagined anyone would be interested in seeing the. I still make things for myself but it is comments like yours which make me show them to a wider audience.
I think I need to find a way to translate these posts into other languages.
