I started creating an abstract piece last year and since then I have been trying to finish it (my real job keeps getting in the way). Sometimes making big, bold changes, and sometimes teasing little changes in direction. I keep stumbling across the same old clichés – when do you stop? When is it actually finished? Should I change this colour or that shape? Do I frame it or leave it as it is? When I’m sick and tired of it should I leave it alone? Or is that the time to scrape the part I’m bored of right off the backing and start that area again? Do you trust your own judgement or ask someone else’s opinion of the work (always a bad idea haha)? And then a new problem started to appear…
I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before! This is the largest piece I have ever made. So where do I put it!!!! Argggg… if I’d only thought this one through I think it would have been way smaller.
This made me wonder – what do all you do with your artistic creations? Do you display them in your home? Or do you give them away because you have no room? Or sell them (if they are good enough)? Do you change pieces over in your home when you find something you like better? Or do you store them out of site somewhere – garage, loft, store room?
I have never given away or sold anything. My favourite pieces I have in my house. The pieces I’m not really happy with (it doesn’t matter, I treat them as part of the journey) I hide away in my garage or throw them away.
I think I am coming to the end of the piece I am working on. Bored with it. Maybe I should put it on one side for a long time and come back to it. But I’m not sure I have the space for it. Feels like the time to stop for a while and do something else.
I’ll post a picture when this particular journey is finally finished.
Wow! I don’t know where would you store your creation but I really love it

Great piece of art. I give away some, hang some of the walls at work and home, put away a lot, sell one here and there but very seldom. I like when my art find new homes. Then I can get space to create new ones.

I store a lot of mine in the garage. I have several in the house, but i mostly give them away. I want them to have homes and not end up just sitting in the garage! I don’t care about making money off them
I love that piece, but I can see working on something so big for so long time could get tiresome. ☺✌
